Malcolm X

Malcolm X was a man who did inspiring things. He took the time he had to spend in prison to teach himself how to read and write. He used the dictionary to teach himself these things. He was able to start with page one and eventually copied the whole dictionary. I don't think I have ever had motivation like that before. He wanted so badly to be able to communicate through letters and to be able to read books. He just kept at it. I am a person that likes things to be easy at first and gradually get harder as I go.

I think the only thing that I have put so much effort into was when I thought I wanted to graduate from high school, after messing up my freshman and sophomore year in high school. I barely passed any classes those years and the ones that I did pass they did not matter too much toward graduation. So my junior year I decided to pull my head out of the sand and get to it. I took extra after school and before school classes and I took summer school classes. It got me closer to my goal. then I did the same thing my senior year. Towards the end I realized that I was not going to graduate and decided that I would go and get my GED. The point to my story is that I made it to the end and still needed 2 more credits to pass. I got very discouraged and quit school and did not go back until last year where I did receive my GED and now here I am in my second quarter of college. I now realize that it would have been all worth it if I had not quit.

  1. Everyone has made there own mistakes, being able to admit them and fix them is a great accomplishment as well. These experiences such as Malcolm X had with learning to read / write are experiences that we are able to give to our children, so hopefully they do not follow in our footsteps. Congratulations on your GED. It takes courage and will power.

  2. Thanks Michelle!!! I had attempted to get my GED 2 other times before that and failed. I told myself that if I did not do it this time I was never going to be able to. I have gotten started early with my son's education because I want him to have the best life possible.
