I think that this story is kind of sad in way because the teacher seemed to be very mean and harsh to the children. They were only in 1st grade. Children at that age are curious and have a need to learn and explore. I think that making the children separate in two different groups was wrong. I know that when I was young I was different from everyone else because I was overweight. Being different made me feel like everyone else was better than me and that I was not good enough. I also went to a Catholic school when I was in the 1st grade and it was a nightmare. The teachers were mean and they did not seem to have any understanding when it came to things. I was very glad when my mom took me out of that school.
I also thought it was sad that the little boy died. It seemed like they had a good thing going for them. Except that they should have been helping each other learn how to do those things instead of doing it for the other person. I really enjoyed the reading.
The three ways that I thought that the teacher was mean are: the teacher made Audre sit it the back of the class with the dunce cap on because she broke her glasses, instead of pairing her up with someone and still helping her to read.
Sister MPH split the class up in to 2 groups, the good ones and the ones she thought were bad, the fairies and the brownies. Audre went back and forth because she could read but she did not know her numbers.
Sister MPH also hit the students and wanted it to hurt. The teacher sent a note home asking the mother to not dress Audre in so many layers because she wanted the hitting to hurt.
Very true.. Kids are very curious at that age and for the teachers to be that mean was just wrong.
ReplyDeleteyes, the children shouldn't have had to go through what they went through. They were only 1st graders. Sister Mary was really mean in many ways.
